Office Lunch- Myths and Realities

The modern sleek office where you are working has excellent canteen and funky atmosphere. But do you really enjoy to spend time on your lunch or simply ignore the lunch hour. Just have a look at the following and you will understand that lunch time should be important in your scheme of things just as your pending presentation slides and sales meeting or whatever else you are doing are:



  1. Just treat your body like a steam engine. To start and fume in the morning, it needs fuels which are supplied by your intake of morning breakfast. Halfway through the day, when the engine fire has consumed most of the fuel supplied in the morning, it still needs more fuel to run through the remaining part of the day. So if you skip your lunch, the probability is that it will have to consume the reserve resources, which in any case are not much in quantity. So it is better that to keep on going you need to have a nutritious meal in your lunch time.


  2. Remember that the morning breakfast you had taken was after a long gap of a night’s sleep. So it is important that you supplement the same with a healthy meal during the day as well.


  3. Long gap between two meals is one of the major causes of acidity and heart burn and a general feeling of fatigue. Your lunch is supposed to help you avoid that situation.


  4. You can not just gobble up a burger with cola or coffee. This will cause you more acidity. Better take a healthy scoop of salad, protein and carbohydrates to last for the day.


  5. Lunch is supposed to be enjoyed in the company of co workers and friends and not just finished as a necessary evil. Take lunch time as a means to socialize as well as build contacts with them.




  6. Take something even if you are not feeling too hungry. Start with a bowl of soup and fire in your belly is sure to be lit up.


  7. Focus by chewing every bite you take. Relax and take deep breathing. This will also help you to distress and relax a bit during your busy and back breaking schedule and deadlines.


  8. Do not mix fruits with milk or milk product as they seem to interfere in their proper digestion. Take a fruit lunch if your office offers that.


  9. Sit for 10 to 15 minutes after lunch keeping quite or enjoying light and pleasant conversation. This is also a good stress buster.


  10. Do not use skipping lunch as a false means of achieving your weight reduction program which you have been avoiding for so many days. In fact you will feel so exhausted and hungry that a splurge on sweets and caffeine in the evening will do more harm than good.


  11. Lunch time is designed by the office for your own good and relaxing. Take it that way and you will feel happy. Work can wait but not the lunch. Make it a policy. Office will also not mind that if you are sincere.
